Strada Verde is Bad for San Benito

San Benito County voters have already come together to stop this dangerous project before - defeating it in a landslide in the 2020 election with almost 60% of the vote. Now, residents are coming together again to stop Strada Verde. We don't need reckless development for more warehouses in our community. It’s time to stop Strada Verde.

“The Strada Verde project will add to the traffic congestion that is stifling our community.”

Strada Verde will add 25,000 vehicles to local roads every day. This will cause major traffic congestion, making it harder for residents to do daily errands like picking up their kids from school or going to doctor’s appointments.

“Strada Verde would replace 2,000 acres of farmland with warehouses, forever changing the unique character of our community.”

Overdevelopment of San Benito County has already destroyed too much of the agricultural beauty that the county is known for. This project would destroy farmland and create extra pressure on our infrastructure and the developers would fund less than 5% of the necessary costs for transportation improvements - leaving taxpayers on the hook for the other 95%.

“The Strada Verde project is extremely dangerous and will hurt our quality of life and make it harder to live and work here.”

The proposed project sits directly next to a chemical plant that handles dangerous chemicals every day. This plant was intentionally placed far from urban development to avoid the possibility of people being exposed to chemicals known to cause birth defects, lung diseases and even death. The increased traffic to and from the site will also create more pollution from vehicle exhaust and diesel fueled tractor-trailers - polluting our farmland and our lungs.

“The Board of Supervisors needs to stop wasting taxpayer money and reject this project once and for all.”

In 2020, the voters of San Benito County rejected Strada Verde at the ballot box in a landslide. Almost 60% of voters in the county came together to stop this dangerous project, but out-of-town developers -- Newport Pacific Land, Chenco Holding and Floriani Development -- are still pushing the project. The Board of Supervisors wants to ignore voters and push the project through without our consent. We can’t let them waste more taxpayer money and ignore what our county really needs.
